Brazil’s June iron ore exports to China surge 42% month-on-month

The latest data released by the Brazilian Ministry of Economy shows that in June, Brazil exported 32.116 million tons of iron ore, an increase of 26.4% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 4.3%; of which exports to my country were 22.412 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 42% (6.6 million tons), A year-on-year decrease of 3.8%. In June, Brazil’s iron ore exports accounted for 69.8% of my country’s total exports, an increase of 7.6 percentage points month-on-month and 0.4 percentage points year-on-year.

Data show that in June, Brazil’s iron ore exports to Japan decreased by 12.9% month-on-month, to South Korea by 0.4% month-on-month, to Germany by 33.8% month-on-month, to Italy by 42.5% month-on-month, and to the Netherlands by 55.1% month-on-month; exports to Malaysia increased month-on-month. 97.1%, an increase of 29.3% for Oman.

Affected by the poor exports in the first quarter, in the first half of this year, Brazil’s iron ore exports decreased by 7.5% year-on-year to 154 million tons; among them, exports to my country were 100 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%. Exports to my country accounted for 64.8% of total exports, an increase of 0.2 percentage points year-on-year.

Brazil’s iron ore export has obvious seasonal changes, usually the first quarter is the lowest, the next three quarters increase quarter by quarter, and the second half of the year is the peak of export. Taking 2021 as an example, in the second half of 2021, Brazil will export 190 million tons of iron ore, an increase of 23.355 million tons over the first half of the year; of which 135 million tons will be exported to my country, an increase of 27.229 million tons over the first half of the year.
